The Optics and Photonics College Network (OPCN) is Association of Postsecondary Photonics Technician Educators.
OP-TEC formed the Optics and Photonics College Network (OPCN) in early 2009. In 2019, LASER-TEC became the operating Center for this network and expanded the network. The OPCN members include faculty and administrators from colleges that are currently providing or planning to provide education and training for technicians in optics and photonics. There are no membership fees to join. Learn how to become LASER-TEC partner and OPCN member: www.laser-tec.org/academic
The goals of the OPCN are to:
- Expand the capacity of U.S. colleges by strengthening and enhancing existing and new photonics technician education offerings and by enlarging student enrollment.
- Provide networking opportunities with colleagues.
- Provide professional development opportunities to OPCN members.
- Facilitate the sharing of ideas and best practices in curriculum, teaching, labs, student recruitment, student retention and relations with employers.
- Provide advice and guidance to LASER-TEC regarding its initiatives, strategies and services.
In addition, LASER-TEC assists colleges who have established lasers and fiber optics programs by providing professional development, equipment, and instructional resources. We also assist those colleges without lasers and fiber optics programs to create courses and programs by providing start-up support.
To request more information about OPCN membership, enrollment, or any other support, please contact us via our contact form, call 772-462-7179 or e-mail info@laser-tec.org.
LASER-TEC publishes a monthly newsletter called the Optics and Photonics Education News (OPEN) where we share the latest news and updates in curriculum materials, resources, events, jobs for graduating students, as well as information related to our partner colleges and members of the laser, optics, photonics, and fiber optics industry network.
Find college programs, their locations, detailed photonics program descriptions, and direct contact information.
View our LASER-TEC College Profiles Booklet here.
If you would like to submit your college’s program information, please contact us at info@laser-tec.org.
There are currently 29 OPCN colleges with laser, optics, photonics, and fiber optics (LOPFO) offerings.
