This month we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the LASER! It was in May 16, 1960 when Theodore Maiman demonstrated the first LASER at Hughes Research Laboratories in Malibu, California. Here you can see the original MASER patent of Schawlow and Townes on which Maiman was based to build the first LASER The LASER is one of the first applications of quantum mechanics in a device that became one of the most useful tools of 21st Century technologies.
